Throughout the year 2022.....

A lovely Christmas gathering at the Milburys

A less than usual attended Christmas gathering didn't dampen the spirits of the evening.  Great food as always was provided by the pub and I think it's fair to say we all left suitably stuffed.  Jo had prepared a great quiz to keep us busy, Joe (with an e!) then provided his "items in the bag" and picture quiz, which went to a tie break.  The Drews and Tony H-S went home as triumphant winners for each of the quizzes.   Pat and Ade then presided over the raffle - efficient and good fun as always.  As Chairman, Pete delivered a well prepared speech thanking everyone for their contribution to the club.  He also passed on the Bob Edney memorial cup from Russ to Ade, for his contribution to the club and particularly his engineering work - well deserved Ade.

A collection for the Hants and IOW Air Ambulance was also taken - full details of the amount collected will be given at the AGM on 19th January.

Thanks to you all for another great year.  Happy 2023.

A fun May Saturday morning for Ginger

We were contacted by a neighbour of 84 year old Ginger, a Horndean resident who had been through a difficult time recently after losing his his wife, Ruby.  His neighbour,  John had treated Ginger under the "NeighbourhelpingNeighbour" scheme to a visit to the the well renowned Sammy Miller Museum.  It was established that Ginger's first bike was a BSA Bantam D1.  Another neighbour, also called John contacted us to enquire if we had any members with a similar machine who might further make Ginger's day by visiting him on the bike.

Pictured above, John (Ginger's friend), Joe, Ginger and David.

We put a message out on our WhatsApp group and Joe and David very kindly agreed to make the trip to Horndean to make Ginger's day.  We popped to the local community centre and reminisced over a cup of tea, before heading off, but not before Joe allowed Ginger to take a spin around the car park on his bike.  How could you deprive this lovely chap this experience - look at the smile on his face.

I know that Russ has suggested a visit to a local rest home - if it puts a smile on some of their faces like it did Ginger, I would highly recommend it.

Thanks to Joe and David for making this happen.

Thursday 20th Jan

Thirteen of us attended the AGM on Thursday evening.  Chairman Pete was unable to attend but the proceedings were efficiently chaired by Andy.  It was great to have a surprise visit by Gerry who has been absent due to illness - several comments about his superb flying jacket followed by "where have you parked your spitfire?".

Your committee members are all volunteers and it goes without saying that all your Club Members thank you for your efforts in making this a great Club to be part of.

The main points from the meeting to note were:

  • Your committee members remains unchanged.
  • It was agreed to top up the collection for the Hants and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) from £181 to £500 (as we missed donating last year due to covid events.)   This still leaves the club with a healthy £500 in the kitty.
  • Agreed to continue with HIOWAA as our preferred charity for 2022.
  • Our Summer Camp is planned for the weekend of 5th - 7th August.  Volunteers to arrange a ride out with a pub stop please speak with Russ.
  • Christmas Meal at The Milburys - Saturday 17th December.
  • ? Volunteers to lead monthly ride-ins to club nights - please see Russ.
  • Popham St. Georges Day Breakfast Run ? Sunday 24th April.
  • National Branch AGM - date changed to Sunday 15th May.
  • National Branch Open Day - Cancelled
